Um, Bulletin?
Your not talking about the Sawyers is turning into a bit of a glaring omission.....
Not too late to redeem yourself with a hard-hitting investigative report.....
KTVZ has over 200 comments on the story, (though Barney says many of them are by the same three ax-grinders.) Still, that's a whole lot of smoke to ignore.
Cough, cough....sputter, sputter....what smoke?
Especially since you seem to be on a run of 'feel-good' stories which are pretty inconsequential. Doggy shows and burglar cats. Nice. Very well written stories. But I get e-mailed stories like that every day.
Lots of news going on. It isn't even the bloggers so much, this time. Both Kohd and Ktvz are covering it; I will assume the Source is going to cover it.
Just saying, as your friend.

Of course, you chose articles from the Features section as examples of feel-good stories. They're supposed to write fluff!
Come on, the KTVZ article has a single, anonymous source. Just the kind of shoddy reporting that we know and love them for.
Just another example in a long line of "see no evil" by the editorial staff:
The Bulletin: To Report Or Not To Report
The Bulletin: To Bias or Not To Bias?
Bend Bulletin: Schizophrenic? Proselytizing?
The Bulletin: False Advertising
Should we really be surprised?
Well, you know, I'm going to assume they will cover it, eventually.
They're NO different than you dunc, they'll wait until all the facts are out, and then it will no longer be news, and thus it will not be reported.

It means that I love you.

Bogus. KTVZ and KOHD both had Chief Baxter announcing that Sawyer had been placed on leave because he and his wife were under investigation by the FBI. The Bull had that information too -- it ignored it.
Today KTVZ has a lot more information. The Bull is still ignoring the story.
The Bull is an embarrassment.
"Of course, you chose articles from the Features section as examples of feel-good stories. They're supposed to write fluff!"
There's heavy fluff throughout the paper. On Sunday, for example, the front page of the Business section consisted of three puff pieces about local businesses and one wire story.
The Bull is determined to keep peddling smiley-face "news," evidently believing that people in this town either don't want or don't deserve the real thing.
Jesse's right. The Bulletin will do a Madoff suicide story, but not a local suicide story.
Wow, look, the Bull actually talked to REAL people involved in the story. http://tinyurl.com/czt5c8
Damn them and their journalistic integrity! Why couldn't they just publish a vapid, poorly written story immediately like everyone seems to want!
Where's the anonymous quote from some tenant somewhere?
"Why couldn't they just publish a vapid, poorly written story immediately like everyone seems to want!"
So I guess you consider this untimely and gratuitous piece a "real" story, then? Because it looks to me to be much more vacuous than most of what the paper publishes (which is not saying much for it).
There is nothing at all in the article about the lawsuits brought against the couple even though these are a matter of public record. What are the Sawyers accused of?!?!
The paper covered the lawsuit against local surgeon Tony Hinz as a front page series. These multiple lawsuits, validated by the FBI's involvement, seem to have more merit and a much wider community impact.
So I think it is still only fair to ask where is the journalistic integrity?
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy reading the paper and appreciate that it's a small town publication. BUT, the editorial staff should own up to the paper's shortcomings and simply try to improve. Is this too much to ask?
"So I think it is still only fair to ask where is the journalistic integrity?"
Wow, it sounds like satirist George Saunders could have written that line. Well done! When it comes to making people sound dumb, no one comes close to Saunders. Except Felder.
