The Real Economy in Bend.

You know it went in the toilet with the Great Recession, and as far as I can see, it still is circling the bowl.

Whatever the media is convinced to say.

Whatever the politicians want to say.

Whatever the P.R. people hope you'll say.

Whatever the business community is willing to say.

Whatever the economists are trying to say.

Individual results can't be used as measure, in my opinion. I've just had an absolutely great month: up about 15% after having 14 months of downturns. I'm pretty certain August will also be better than last year. Because I was prepared for a 10% downtick, I've had a 25% boost to my earnings. I'm pretty sure that's going to happen in August, too. Cool.

The Real Economy hasn't changed, however. It just means there was a bottom to the market, and then a new plateau and then another bottom and then another uptick -- and it doesn't distract me from the idea that the fundamentals -- housing sales and prices; unemployment; and idiot politicians haven't changed.

It seems like the further away from the actual real economy an "expert" is, the more clueless he is. The whole idea that we ever came out of the recession, at least here in Bend, is idiotic.

I mean, to me the wise thing to do is expect this kind of slow, slow growth -- if that. You can still make money if you are realistic. It isn't being negative to expect the recession to continue. It's the way you can prepare for the eventual recovery -- whether that happens this year, next year, or years after.

Meanwhile, living in the Real economy is a survival skill.

To me, the economy is just one factor in the success or failure of my business -- if a mighty important one.

But as long as your overhead is reasonable -- if you negotiated a reasonable rent, if you have kept your discretionary expenses down, if you have modest needs for income and so on, then you need to pay attention to your inventory and cost of goods, and so on.

But it's all relative.

I guess my feeling is -- why would anything change?

Wall Street is as corrupt as ever. No one went to jail.

Just keep looting the economy, guys. Nothing will happen to you.

It's all about minimizing expenses. And that means being 100% debt free and having many months of reserves. Bend is a fantastic place to live, but one has to live well within their means. Slow growth is more stable.

It's clear that the government has no intention of really addressing the long term unfunded liabilities this country faces on all levels. Eventually the sh*t will hit the fan, but for now easier to kick the problem down the road.

A min-wage guy always considers himself 'rich' and ask's "what's the problem?"

Yes, if you live in a big car, and big house in Bend, and of course NOT have that big-job, which doesn't exist in Bend.

Now that easy-debt is Bend-Gone, ... then life is NOT EASY.

Folks want an easy-life, and to all such was passed, and it was a party.

For 40 years the party rolled-on, by way of continual 'bubbles', but now the bubbles are over.

Yes, the future of the USA is very dire. In fact its easy to say there is no future, ... other than liquidation of army bases all over the world. The soldiers return home and make the lives of US citizens terrible, because there are 100's of thousands of bullies with guns that we have made, and they'll all come home to roost.

US citizens made a toilet, and now must live in it, forever.

Call it "HELL" for no better name.

Bend will not be a fantastic place, once the shit hits the fan.

$10 gal gas will change everything in central orygun. This ship is in a bottle, and once the shit hits the fan ( USD loses reserve currency status ) then everything will become to expensive to keep places like Bend on life support.

Ghost town and quick.

Cheap portable energy is why Bend has beautiful people, when that cheap energy is gone, ... so will the people. But that of course is a good thing, those who live in campers can once again enjoy the real Bend from a trailer burning fire wood.

NOT PASSING MUST HAPPEN,
ONLY out of the ashes of not passing will a real-debate take place.

Once the debt fails to pass, and their is a crunch on real money.

Then and only then will people be brought in to balance the books.

Then and only then will ALL pug's and dems be told to go to their time-out room and shut up.

Just like WWII,

The chattering class is irrelevant. The debt hysteria is that the status quo wants the party to continue. But most of these senators are going to be dead any way in 5-10 years.

The problem all over the world and GREECE is a good example is the children are FUCKED. The OLD folks have stolen the FUTURE for 40+ years, and the young get the fucking bill.

Better that we deal with these problems NOW, rather than wait and have the young burn down wash-dc.

hbm & dunc are old farts, who don't give a rats ass about young folks NOT having a future.
