I think that the Bulletin's travails was Real News; and yet, other than their own (understandably) self-serving stories, there was little information to be found.
I expect we'll hear almost nothing from here on out.
I think it impacted on me more than most news because I've been reading the Bulletin forever; it's always been here. Unlike others, I've thought it is a pretty good local paper. They may have bought into the real estate hype, but in my opinion no more than any other newspaper probably would have. I think their editorial slant is awfully conservative, but then so is most of Bend.
I had just about the most hits and page counts yesterday than I've ever had, which reflects interest in the story and a paucity of places to explore it.
I didn't feel schadenfreude, just surprise.

Went out to the Badlands to write yesterday, and unlike the time before, it wasn't exactly comfortable. It was hot -- and muggy. It was kind of fun to be in nature during the thunderstorm ,though.
Wrote half a chapter, and came back and realized I'd duplicated what I'd written before. Now I have to choose one version or the other, or try to integrate the two.

This story is like the death of an old broadway whore, you sort of remember her in prime, but then watched her fall apart from alcoholism and self-destruction for the next 50 years, today you read she died alone on the toilet. Hardly worth more than a 2 line obituary.
The fire is really NEWS, and it effects everyone.

Since so many newbies are here reading for first time we might want to remind them that here in paradise, that this smokey shit comes to Bend every year, and always has and always will.
Generally most summers are so smokey you have to know where they are first to avoid them on your bike ride or jog. Yep, badlands as a rule of thumb is smoke free most of the time, ain't much fuel out there.

I think the Bulletin is representative of what's going on...debt.
Descutes County still seems to be spending money, the city council seems to be hanging onto their money spending schemes out of sheer stubbornness.
Businesses keep opening in defiance to reality -- just like people were buying houses a few years ago thinking they were getting a great "deal."
Thing is, reality has a way of puncturing the illusions. I think we'll be seeing more and more of that.
It's like a car that crashes on the edge of cliff, and it stops just short and is tettering and everyone sighs in relief and then an apple falls out of the lunch bag and rolls down, and the whole thing tips over for another wild ride down the cliff.

Today OREO is advocating free loans to people who don't pay payments to keep them in their homes, to keep the prices from collapsing.
WHY? WHY? Praytell is OREO so afraid of USA RE hitting a real bottom?? I think many investors will come forward, but they simply want to keep the prices up, so people like dunc&hbm feel they have something.

Dunc&HBM have nothing, hbm waits for the price to come up, but it will not, he'll die in Bend rather than go to Hawaii, dunc of course is compfy and doesn't care what of the price, but I really think he should buy his own building with linda and combine shops and quit paying rent.
Yes the story is bashing BofA, by the BULL. I think its popular to bash BofA, but hell today the BULL couldn't pay the loan if they went for a loan. Yesterday they took the loan out, and today they can't make the payment. To get a fucking JUDGE to force the BofA to give the BULL better terms is exactly what is wrong with the whole fucking show.
DEBT & FRAUD, ... blame BofA, shit the biggest problem with BofA is they were forced to buy country-wide, and now they're Bend-FUCKED(Tm).
BofA is fucked, exactly because most of the people are exactly like the BULL and NOT paying their payments.
Regarding the city&county of Bend, I don't think MUNI debt is that easy anymore, that game is over. They used to simply roll over the debt, but now they're at CAP. Now judges all over the country are forcing the MUNI market to give locals are better deal.
In my mind this all goes back to crooked lawyers, which is were the crooked judges come from. These lawyers don't have anything to offer so they blame BofA, but where does the CASH come from to pay for these lawyers??? Maybe the BULL's lawyer sees a SETTLEMENT? Perhaps that FED-MONEY can be used by the banks for these nuisance lawsuits??
THE BULL IS A POSTER-BOY of what is wrong with AMERIKKKA.
When the only weapon in your arsenal is DEBT, or a BOGUS-CHECKBOOK, ... then that is the only solution.
It's funny to RIGHT NOW compare EUROPE solutions and USA. EUROPE is talking about austerity, and 10 year plans, ... the USA is only talking about people who kill their children.
Of course all this talk about debtors, not a mention of creditors. Those that support our hot-air balloon the ASIANS look in aghast at the stupidity of 'white people'.
I'll tell you folks, a dark ugly comeuppance is coming soon to ALL of the USA, and including Bend-Orygun.

I have always felt since a child that USA means "UNITED SLAVERY AMALGAMATED"
Maybe the black were 'freed', but the realty is USA comes from a peonage system of europe. Debtor prisons will return, and those in debt are slaves and those who don't pay are convicts. The ONLY way to live in the USA as a freeman is to be DEBT-FREE, but that requires not buying a home, iPhone, or auto.
