Compromised.

A few times lately, I've found myself thinking -- should I write that? Won't that upset...whoever....shouldn't I lay off? Do I want them to think badly of me?

And then I remember. I never cared what people thought of me. I've always gone it alone. That's the charm. I can say what I think. I don't care....

But of course I do.

See what I mean?

If I don't think anyone's paying attention, I can pretty much say any damn thing. I'm not that important. It doesn't matter what I say or think. It's only my opinion. I could be wrong, you know, that goes without saying.

But if I think that people are actually reading, I start to second guess myself.

So here's the thing. I shouldn't say anything I wouldn't say out loud to the person's face. And if I decide that I'm worried about offending someone and therefore won't write about something, I need to get get off my high horse and admit I'm compromised. It's perfectly O.K. I've mentioned before that I've never posted anonymously. Well, in the last two days I did. So there....

So which is it, boy? Balls out fearless posting, or....well, I'm being honest but I'm going to hold back?

I'll let you know.

So....I slept on it.

1.) I still don't think what I say is all that important, except to me.

2.) I still want to say what I think, and not worry about the consequences. (And the consequences aren't much.)

To start: I'd like to direct you to the Bend Economy Bulletin Board (googling should get you there.) Read the post titled "Bulletin's Real Estate reporter..."

Very interesting. But I have to label it as 'rumor', folks. It's sounds true, but....so did Sally Heatherton. And I would point out, we're only getting one side of the story.

But I doubt this will be the end of it.

And since we're back on the subject of Bend Real Estate, I would once again point you toward the Housing Bubble Blog -- which gathers REAL news stories on the real estate market nationally. (My favorite bugaboo, along with Mug Shots from KTVZ.com, pictures worth a million words. ) Especially the analogs of Bend, in Florida and California and Arizona.

I love the Bendbubble2 blog, (if I blogged anonymously, I hope I could be that outrageous and funny) but there's no denying it's opinion. What's amazing about the national Housing Bubble Blog is that it is real news stories. And if that doesn't give you religion....

Why do you say Sally Heatherton wasn't real?

Just because it was fiction doesn't mean it wasn't real.

Jeez, how did I miss the blogger meetup? Someone tell me next time :)

On David Fisher, he's only written one or two stories since the Bratton one. Andrew Moore seems to be on the real estate beat now.

Dunc is right today, the SHIT is hitting the fan,

It really is the perfect storm for BULLshit, spring is upon us, and it ain't coming back.

The advertisers are out of money, as Marge has said this is food-stamp time for the Realtors.

The MTG biz, has anybody tried to do a REFI or similar lately?? I have AAA+ credit which means above 780, and I'm getting the run around on deals.

This is what I mean by a perfect storm you have a town of 60k ( my guess ), and 1/2 the town WAS feeding at the RE pig trough which went dry two years ago, ... WHO IN THE FUCK is the BULL lying to?? Only the tourists, but they ain't coming anymore.

It's a KLUSTER-FUCK, and that's why the reporters are JUMPING-SHIP. Even they see the writing on the walls.

Thus DUNC is right, the SHIT has hit the fan.

Its not liked we ever wished for this, were all just filling a void, the BULL/SORE refused to cover the truth, and we filled void. Soon there may not even be a BULL. We could from a one newspaper town, to a NO newspaper town. Note the SORE is only an avenue for promoting street closures, and thus NOT a newspaper.

I wonder how common it is for a reporter to quit or be fired because they feel stories aren't being covered honestly.

Whistle-blowers almost always totally ruin their careers.

And there's the pesky ---missing for two days -- thing.

Confirmation can only come from the reporter or the Bulletin, which seems unlikely.

Too bad. It could've been a real cause celeb.

I hate using Dubya analogies, they're cheap, but really this does remind me off when the Dubya was winning every single publicity campaign, every vote, and I kept wondering -- winning the publicity war isn't the same thing as actually winning the war.

I think we'll get a flood of feel good and good news stories this spring.

But, again, I point to California or Florida as our inevitable future.

I just know the house behind me has been on the market for over a year, and has dropped a bunch in price, and I never even see anyone looking at it.

Cheap but true, the BULL,COVA,COAR are doing their own SURGE.

Like it or NOT dunc that's what they're doing with OUR money, just like DUMBYA.

What do they have to lose? Not their money, and if they quit, then its OVER, so just keep spending COVA/VCB taxpayer money, and running 'best in 20 campaigns'.

Your witnessing OUR own Bend-Surge dunc, call it CHEAP or not, just like the NAZI analogy's people say they can be cheap, but if you know your third Reich history you can always see the parallels.

COSTA has nothing to lose, and everything to gain from the SURGE, and if a few reporters quit thats a good thing, its the chinese cutting off the monkeys head theory, this tells the other reporters to 'keep your mouth shut' and get with the program.

You MUST not agree with DUMBYA's surge dunc, but it worked, rather than admitting failure, he has managed to pass the fiasco on to the next term.

The "Best in 20 years" is simply an attempt to delay the inevitable collapse of Bend, it will be 1-2 years before the FEDS step in to loan money, right now its impossible to get money, this is why the home behind you hasn't sold.

Nobody will loan in Bend, because nobody knows what it is worth, I wrote a lot about this on BB2 this week, about how to apply the HPI and National-City fudge factors, but nobody seems to know how to value Bend. Partly because our county assessments are a fraud themselves.

Everything in Bend is a fraud and COSTA has NO choice, its like Friedman its either SURGE or prison, Friedman can't lose INN@7thMTN, and COSTA can't lose the best in 20 war.

I must say, I totally underestimated the tenacity of the real estate people to toe the publicity line. As everyone has pointed out, they can't make money until some volume starts moving, and for that they should be encouraging price reductions.

But real estate people are already in ill-repute...they really can't do their own reputations much more harm.

But the Bulletin? I'm really surprised by how they seem to feel it is their job to keep touting Bend as a major up and comer. They have a mindset that we're important. It isn't just about the money.

Good news, Bruce! You can now retire your website!

The Bulletin's lead article in the Perspective section.

"Juniper Ridge Q & A

Putting questions to rest about Bend's planned development."

See...they've put all questions to rest.....

Bewert said...

That was some fluff, wasn't it? We learned how it got it's name and that "...the city is fine-tuning plans for the residential portion of the devvelopment, which is expected to yield the most income to the city and Juniper Ridge developers."

I think JR being pushed towards residential rather than job creation, fiscal responsibility and transparency are going to have to be our three biggest issues in the Council elections this fall.

BTW, do a search on Lily Raff on the BULL site and you can see how highly regarded this reporter that is covering JR is...

Opinion? Man, I'm The King Of Cut & Paste!

I'm posting more stories over there than anyone!

You cut me deep Shrek. You cut me real deep just now.

Duncan McGeary said...

Yeah, you're the king of cut and paste. It's what you put between them that's outrageous.

The Gollum Andrews picture was hilarious!

Duncan McGeary said...

The Bulletin pointing folk toward the blogs just yesterday is kind of ironic, don't you think?

While most of the blogs are harmless, some readers might just stumble on Bendbubble's blogs and get more than they bargained for....

I'm trying hard not to bite the hand that feeds me.

I'm real glad that you posted that Gollum photo.

Do you know that I watch that trilogy almost everynight! I have the extended trilogy.

For over a year now I have written about how Bend is/was the Shire, back in the day, and how the cali Goblins took over and destroyed middle-earth ( central-oregon ). Gollum was actually a good guy, so is there some good-ness to Andrews??

Mixing biz & politics, thats my point dunc where does it end & begin, BB to BB2 to dunc? Bendbb, Sally, I have noticed that even for the newbies its takes 2-3 months to figure who is who, god forbid when the press does their normal cursory story. The SORE loves you dunc.

The kitchens getting HOT, the shit is hitting the fan. The 'best in 20' is a big joke to all, and as you & me both say, on a scale of 1 to 10 on mean-ness, we're still in the low digits. This place is going to get a lot worse than I let on.

The pic of Gollum was good, we must protect middle earth, and we must rid the place of Goblins, and other foul creatures.
