I have consistently underestimated the internet. About the only thing I got right was the basic uselessness of a web site -- at least, if I had to pay a lot of it. Seems like 5 or 10 years ago I'd get one guy after another trying to sell me on a website, and none of them could explain how it would benefit me.

Now...well, it can be done for next to nothing. So, that might work. But paying mucho bucks for it a few years ago? Not so much.

(oops, this was supposed to be a comment. ah, well...)

duncan,

Reading your site I thought you did have a fantasy website? These days you can have an ebay site quite cheap, and simply ship stuff as they buy it, I do agree its quite boring.

That said given the number of hours you spend on a computer anyway,... How can you lose.

I do agree that websites have been over-sold. Perhaps they're now next to free, but that will not last, once everyone is addicted and google own everything they'll start charging,

It cannot hurt for you to put product, but like I have said before, in YOUR biz you cannot afford to take ANY refunds, and the internet buyers are largely crooks, thus you need to be clear that there are NO returns....

You do need more marketing maintain a website that shows all your merchandise, and make sure people note to visit all three stores when in Bend, and also tell people all over the world that you can get anything, thus they'll email you and ask for stuff, and you can sell/ship on an as needed basis to those who found you because they support you, thus less likely to be crooks.

For me its no thing to talk politics with nitwits, but in business it drives me crazy, and given that most of the people on the internet are nose-pickers, you can really waste time,

To date look at the ALL the models, and who really makes money? JUST GOOGLE, and those that can sell their silly website to GOOGLE, all else are just chasing there tail,

All the above said, I think you can use the web to market little Pegagus as the POWELLS of eastern oregon, and stay on theme, and that will get more tourists in the door.

E-bay would be a pretty easy way to start out.

Also, and I realize this is completely off-topic, I have a new kitten. Put some pictures up for my first blog entry, so take a peek if you want. I know I was going to write about my reintroduction to the comics scene, but this was just too cool to ignore.

The comics-related entry will be up shortly, I promise!

Duncan,

Your famous again today in the Source, this time HBM agree's with you, but the solution is to make downtown Bigger.

He says that downtown was made for a 20K population, and now WE must grow south, east, and north.

In order to have a 'walk-friendly' downtown, we can't move the cop-shop can we? Can we move the court house? Can we move the new FWY bypass ( WHY DID THEY RUN IT THROUGH TOWN NOT OUT EAST? )

Why NOT go west? HBM says we can't, but certainly we can pipe the deschutes, and that Drake Park would make a great Urban Walmart or Outlet Store. East? Again that new bypass needs to be move 'underground'.

Hell I can see BILLIONS of dollars of construction in building Bend into a world class city.
