How about a list of businesses that have longevity in downtown Bend.
Or more to the point, a business "closes" and a business "opens" every other week.
How many businesses are in downtown Bend? What is the churn rate? is it 5%, 10%?
By your list we already know there are 26 new businesses per year on average for the last 4 years and 26 closures per year.
You are noticing the coming and going of businesses but what about the long time businesses that are there either by the sheer will of their owner or actually having a good product mix that people want...
You sound a little challenging there.
The answer is -- I can number the long term businesses -- say 20 years or more, on my fingers.
But the reason for me starting this list is because I wanted a record, so that in another few years people won't have to guess.
I do believe I'm pretty much the longest continuing business under the same owner. There may be another or two, but I can't think of them.
Long term, there is Robert's, where the next generation has taken over. Wendy at Trivia Antiques is not far behind me (she started with a partner) and the same with Kitchen Complements. The Pine Tavern, of course, which has changed owners at least twice, and Goodies, ditto.
Metropolitan Barber shop has been there forever and a day, but completely different people.
Deschutes Brewery is showing some real strong history.
At the Beach is 26 years, apparently, but is currently for sale. Ranch Records is still here.
I'm sure I'm missing a few.
Frankly, there really aren't that many. What either aren't on the list, or mentioned above -- are older than 4 years, but probably younger than 20 years -- mostly in the lower end of that scale.
Is that the answer you wanted?
By the way, I truly intended for this list to be non-judgmental.
I could just never remember who and what and when businesses were in downtown. So I wanted to record that.
If anything, I'm amazed by the resiliency of the business climate downtown, it doesn't seem to be any worse than the averages you hear about over all (50% success and failure in 5 years) and there have actually been more business move in than have moved out -- in the Great Recession!
Nothing to get all defensive about, man.
I counted (unscientific method) just nine businesses from the "goings" list that had been in business for more than five years (not counting shops like ours, which are still in business, but moved out of the downtown area). That means approximately 90% of those who left were in business for less than five years. That speaks volumes about how tough the retail & restaurant worlds really are. (Yeah, and be careful about signing those five-year leases.)
To your anon commenter, the owner's will and a good product mix are only two small parts of what it takes to keep going (esp. these days). Having the things "people want" is highly subjective. Downtown stores/restaurants are specialty, nichey businesses that by definition will not appeal to everybody. Each one has its unique formula, although some seem to have hit a better chord than others, true. Kudos to those who have braved it out beyond that five, ten, or (gasp) 20 year mark.
Not to mention that it probably isn't always the best idea to keep going. I mean, for us it was. But sometimes you just have to realize that other options are there.
We are still around at least partially because it seemed our only reasonable option.

I didn't see Footzone on your list. They have been around for a while and they seem to have a dedicated customer base (myself included).
Bond Street Market (moved) and Bellatazza are "long" timers (compared to the MANY newcomers).
Bars too... seems like the D&D, Wall Street, and Corey's have been around forever (but I don't think I've been inside any).
I'm sure I'm missing some.
I believe most of the places you mentioned have sold in some point.
Bellatazza and Bond St. Market are new in my eyes.
Though I've included restaurants in my list, they are out of my area of expertise.
But yeah, there are some longtime survivors, bless their stubborn little hearts.
