Mugshots

You all know my fascination with mugshots.

There is a comment over on HBM's blog, that the Bulletin should drop the police reports.

No.

No, No, No, No, No.

Not only shouldn't they drop the police reports, they really should include the mugshots.

Their circulation would double, I tell you!

Anyway, I'm always amazed that the guys in mugshots are almost always skinheads; and/or very wild hair. The women are all wild hair.

I used to think the criminals in Bend were all cross-eyed, but I finally realized the photographer is telling them to stare at some point in the middle of the camera, or something.

If I ever get arrested, I'm going to be sure to look off a little bit.

The reason I bring this up, is I found a book to order that is all historical mugshots, called BOOKED.

Will be interesting to see.

It's the lighting. I've never seen mug shots lit the way the PD does it here. They have lights on both sides of the faces, about at or behind the ears. This lights the sides of the faces and noses but the center part of the face gets little light. Notice the dark stripe that runs down the centerline of their faces. The light skimming across the eyeballs is responsible for the beady-eyed cross-eyed look.

It's totally bizarre lighting.

Nearly as creepy as the lighting they use in the KTVZ news studio. The whites are totally bumped up giving the announcer's teeth and eye whites an unnatural detail-free brightness, while the makeup gives their skin this overly tanned and smoothed look. Add to that the yellow tint of the background and the slightly off color cast of the lights and the end result is unnerving, to say the least.

Behind the BULLY firewall:

Room taxes continue to plunge in regionDeschutes County and the city of Bend reported 22.7% and 28.2% declines, respectively, in March room-tax collections...for the city of Bend it was the fifth consecutive month of double-digit declines...

Didn't have year over year numbers.

Without RE/construction and tourism, where is the money going to come from?
